Murphy Radio is a rock band based in Samarinda City, Indonesia. Since their formation in 2013, their music has slowly begun to capture the attention of local music fans. They combine emotional tones in complex musical arrangements.
In August 2016, they decided to take their journey forward with an independent tour of eight cities across Java Island. Simultaneously, they released a three-song EP, "Naftalena" to introduce their music.
The single "Sports Between Trenches" released via music video in late 2017, further propelled Murphy Radio's name to the attention of several influential musicians in the Indonesian independent music scene.
Murphy Radio's debut album was released on August 18 2018, in collaboration with Singaporean independent label An Atmos Initiative. That same year, Murphy Radio also played at several prestigious national music festivals, such as Synchronize Festival, Archipelago Festival, and Rock In Celebes. Not only that, they also performed at the Envol et Macadam Festival in Quebec City, Canada.
Speaking of albums, Friend of Mine Records, an independent label from Tokyo (Japan), re-released Murphy Radio's debut album in early 2019 with two additional songs and a different cover design and CD packaging.
A year later, Murphy Radio returned with two new songs, full of compassion for survivors of disabilities, titled "Autumn" and "Sandy" which were released in a single music video on March 21, 2020, coinciding with World Down Syndrome Day. The two songs were later combined into maxi-single, "Vibrant Colors" when released on digital streaming channels. "Autumn" was nominated for the 2020 AMI Awards in the "Best Progressive Production" category.
The following year, Murphy Radio released the maxi-single "2015" featuring two songs from Murphy Radio's earlier, pre-Naftalena era, recorded by the era lineup. And in April 2023, Murphy Radio released the single "Cats" experimenting with a more pop feel.
"Debu Kan Kembali Menjadi Debu" was a release that proved Wendra's ability to write songs with lyrics in Bahasa Indonesia. It was released at the end of 2023.
